Kids, Cops, and Christmas
This year marks our 9th year for our annual Kids, Cops and Christmas. During the last eight years, the Tucson Police Officer’s Association has given thousands of Tucson’s children a brighter Christmas. Every year, the TPOA takes about 300 kids from Head Start and the Urban League to shop for anything they want! In addition to the kids from those two agencies, Tucson Police Officers refer children that they meet on the street or in schools.
Not only do the kids have a great time interacting with our officers, they get to meet Santa and are treated to yummy snacks. For some of these kids, this may be the first time that they have ever had positive interactions with the police. All of the kids have their pictures taken with their officers and are given that photo as a keepsake.
For the past several years, this event has been held at the Target Greatland at 9615 E. Old Spanish Trail. The store has been a terrific host, and always gives great customer service to the kids. The store always provides the kids with free gifts as well, and has a raffle with great prizes for lucky kids.
Then, after the kids and cops part ways, our officers are treated to a brunch. We encourage the families of our officers to attend both the shopping event as well as the brunch. This is a great time for officers to see friends from the past, as well as spend time with current squads. We have raffles for everyone, and the winners always take home some great stuff!
Our program would not be successful without the continued support from our officers that volunteer their time. In addition, our Tucson Police Explorers help every year in bagging the loot and shopping with kids.
Our next Kids, Cops and Christmas will be held December 20, 2008.
We accept donations for the Cops 4 Kids program throughout the year. You can send donations to:

Back To School
For the last three years, over 300 kids have been given the opportunity to shop for school supplies and school clothes. In August, we bring about 100 kids to the Target Greatland to shop with our officers. The only difference in the Back to School and Kids and Cops Christmas is that the kids only shop for school supplies and clothes.
Officers refer all of the children in this program.
KidCare Fingerprinting
The Tucson Police Officer’s Association has put on several safety fairs at both Park Mall and Tucson Mall over the past few years.
We provide fingerprinting for kids free of charge to our community. The fingerprinting is done using the very latest in digital equipment, and is not collected for any type of law enforcement database. The fingerprint card, as well as a current photo of their child, is given directly to the parents.
Along with the fingerprint card and photo, TPOA officers provide safety tips to parents and coloring books to the kids.
