Support our Annual Kids and Cops Event
The Kids and Cops Christmas Event provides underprivileged children from the Tucson community with the opportunity to shop with police officers at a local Target store. Each child is given $100.00 to spend, and the goal of the event is to give children a chance to spend positive, personal time with a police officer while assisting them in getting much-needed items for the winter and the holidays.
Every year, the TPOA takes up to 300 kids from the Tucson community to shop for the toys and clothing they want and need! Tucson Police Officers refer children that they meet through calls for service or in schools. Not only do these kids have a great time interacting with our officers, they get to meet Santa and are treated to yummy snacks. For some of these kids, this may be the first time that they have ever had positive interactions with the police. All of the kids have their pictures taken with their officers and are given that photo as a keepsake.
For over 10 years, this event has been held at the Super Target located at 4040 N. Oracle road. Target has been a terrific host, and they always provide great customer service to the kids.
After the kids and cops part ways, the officers and all volunteers are treated to a delicious brunch. Our officers are encouraged to bring their families to attend both the shopping event as well as the brunch. This provides a great time for officers to see friends from the past, as well as spend time with their current squads. TPOA provides raffles prizes, and the winners usually take home some great stuff!
This program would not be successful without the continued support of our officers that volunteer their time, the Tucson Police Explorers, who help bag the loot and our partners at HeadStart.
We are a registered 501(c)3 and accept donations for the Kids and Cops program throughout the year.
